Garden of Yesterday to The Garden of Tomorrow

THE VACANT LOT

In the heart of South Phoenix lies The Garden of Tomorrow (GOT), a remarkable testament to the power of community, determination, and the belief that a vacant lot can be the birthplace of change. 17 years ago this plot was a vacant lot in South Mountain. Over the years through loving dedication by Darren the TigerMountain Foundation (TMF) Team and local community the Garden of Tomorrow was born. The Garden now symbolizes resiliency and hope for more than those in our neighborhood.

Tomorrow

TMF’s mission goes beyond cultivating vegetables; it’s about cultivating futures. TMF empowers kids, adults, and seniors through community gardens and landscaping initiatives. By teaching folks practical life skills like choosing healthy foods over processed meals healthier choices are made in the garden. This path keeps individuals out of trouble by keeping them occupied and continuously challenging their limits. The GOT is improving their lives, and strengthening the community with laughter and activities. The Garden of Tomorrow has become a pillar of positive change in it’s 17 years of cultivation.

Start at the beginning

At TMF, we believe in the power of the community to help itself. Instead of offering handouts, we provide a hand-up. Our approach is rooted in Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD), where the community’s existing strengths are harnessed to create positive change. It’s about fostering self-sufficiency and resilience. At the garden we encourage and practice sustainability, from creativity through art to exploration through science. The Garden of Tomorrow is a place where sowing the seeds of change in our youth and elders is possible.

The Possibilities

The Garden of Tomorrow is just one example of what’s possible. When individuals and communities come together with a shared vision, things start to flourish. We are inviting everyone to Join us at The Garden of Tomorrow to continue to turn this once-vacant lot into a thriving garden. We encourage individuals to explore science, technology, engineering, arts, agriculture, and mathematics (STEAAM2) to create a brighter, more sustainable future. All of these topics are welcome at the Garden of Tomorrow, from agrioltaics, no-till, permaculture, or any other creative idea. All are welcome.
